Lorentz transformations

– awareness of the Lorentz transformations –

Abstract

This webpage reveals the essence of Lorentz transformations.
Lorentz’s transformations are just a mathematical solution to one, actually a completely purely mathematical task:

“How the obtained numerical values of the measured speed of a moving object can be the same for each of two inertial frames of reference, which are in a state of rectilinear motion at a constant speed relative to each other” – – i.e. that “the speed of light to be the same for both frames of reference!

Solving this task was necessary to find an explanation for the “unexpected” and “inexplicable” result of the “Michelson-Morley” experiment, which found no difference in the speed of light in the movement of the Earth around the Sun. In order to obtain the same numerical values when measuring the speed of a moving object for each of the two inertial reference systems, which are in a state of rectilinear motion with constant velocity relative to each other, it was assumed that the length of a moving object is measured to be shorter than its “proper length”, which is the length as measured in the object’s own frame of rest. This is also known as Lorentz contraction or Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction. The assumption that the units of measurement for length and time (the “meter” and “second”) change depending on the speed of the moving body is what led to the Lorentz transformations as an alternative to Galilean transformations! But here we must be aware that if we change the units of measurement in an equation of theoretical physics, we can prove anything we want (even absurdities)!

The real reason for the “unexpected” and “unexplained” result of the Michelson-Morley experiment is presented in “Analysis of the famous blunder Michelson-Morley experiment”. This analysis proves that the Lorentz transformations were not actually necessary.

In the practice of almost every engineer with a specialty in “Instrumentation & Control” (I&C), the need to solve the following problem arises – when, for some reason, the measured numerical value of a physical quantity has to be changed (converted) to other (desired) value. The easiest way is, if it is possible, to change the measure (the scale of some unit of measurement) with an appropriate coefficient.

Chapter 20 of the monograph “The Special Theory of Relativity ─ the Biggest Blunder in Physics of the 20th Century” shows a thought experiment revealing the essence of Lorentz transformations and the special theory of relativity. The presented thought experiment is based on Einstein’s favorite experiments. It is presented another solution to the aforementioned task. Another transformation named the “I&C transformation” has been proposed, which considers not only the magnitude but also the direction of the velocity of an arbitrarily moving body. The two solutions are compared.

The conclusion, however, is clear – the two solutions have mathematical value in the field of mathematics, but cannot be applied in the field of physics, because they do not correspond to the physical reality!

And as a final conclusion from the demonstrated thought experiment, it can be said that:

this is an illustration that shows how the scientific notion of the existing physical reality can be distorted …
